I have a customer who I've been talking with for quite sometime. He's an old-timer who has been schooling me in the art of traditional jazz and archtop guitars. He's not a builder, but a player with one hell of a collection. I mentioned D'Aquisto in passing and talked about how I always wanted to see one in person... turns out he had not one but TWO made for him in the 70's! He brought them out to me to sit with an play! I never thought I'd see one outside of a display let alone play TWO of them!

I snapped pics of this one: Image

Needless to say I am even more geeked to build my first archtop! :D These guitars are just flawless works of art. I need to hone my skills quite a bit, but I am putting a lot of effort into the research and eventual build of one of these beauties.

Jimmy was the best!
Had the pleasure of talking with him and his son over lunch at the '88 Symposium.

Yummy.
One day I'll be building those. But it'll be a while. Lots more to learn first.

Chris; That's awesome! I would have loved to meet him but sadly i was a punk kid back when he was alive and didn't know anything about guitar building or quality (I owned a Westone Electra with EMGs [xx(] )

Mike: Yeah I plan to as well I have been researching for a couple of months now and plan to start one before the year is out! I can't wait :D But first..... lots and lots of research and talking to other builders like you guys about the theory, dos and dont's and maybe some of the magic involved with these builds! :D

This just sounded beautiful. It was in need of a set up but all the craftsmanship is top notch and holding true even though it's almost 40 years old!
