I have made this Purple Heart Guitar with a Mahagony Neck . The more I get closer to finishing I wish I had used Lighter Maple for the Neck instead of the Darker mahagony . duh BUTTT there is no way i'm gonna go and change it now laughing6-hehe SO Opinions please .

Should I leave well enough alone and finish it like I have it now " still some prep work i know" Or should I consider adding a little amber to the top to tie it closer into the darker mahagony neck ?

What say yeeee ?

Make a maple neck and save the mahogany one for another guitar.

I appreciate the thoughts guys , I have already kicked that thought around . However this is a glue in neck NOT bolted , so the work to change it is way beyond what I want to do . I have another thought and that was to go black with the neck and leave the top nautural . So back to my Orig . Question
Amber top ? Black Neck ? Leave as is and learn from the mistake?

I would go black neck then. Amber top might not look so good with the purpleheart just like the mahogany. What did you use for binding?

I think this is one of those cases where a problem turns into a feature. Maple would have been nice, but I think a black neck is perhaps even more appropriate.

What was the matter with it as it was? (I don't see it.)

Agree. I rather like the purple and mahogany combo, and they'd get even closer in color as they age. But black is ok too.

It was just a bit too contrasting to me , I liked it when i started and less and less as I went along , And they wont get closer as they age because I made a dye that was almost exactly the Purple in the purple heart and dyed the purple heart with it so that it would keep its color longer .

But thanks guys for the vote of confidence ! [:Y:]

I painted the Mahagony neck last night and it looks good black . I decided to apply several coats of laq over the paint today before I take it out of the spray room. I still have some prep work to do on the body and i believe the laq will help keep it scratch free . Will post a pic soon.

A black/dark filler on the neck would have darkened it nicely and might have brought down the contrast enough for your tastes????? Sounds like it worked out well. Looking forward to a photo of the black neck.....

Well , it can always be stripped and redone if i dont like it painted . Once its dyed or filled thats pretty much it . So I still have room to work if I dont like the black painted finish .

Honest Opinions Welcome Please .

Well, Jim, I honestly think it is quite an improvement. I likey!

If it had been me, I would have experimented with black filler, as has been suggested, and then some sort of a black 'burst or a "transparent" black, then the solid black. (Maybe you did all that already.) That is just because I like the look of wood. But again, I like how the neck fits the rest of the decor.

Merry Christmas!

Looks alot better now Jim! [:Y:] The neck matches the binding and looks like it belongs on that guitar instead of another. ;)
