This is my third steel string guitar, my second from scratch guitar, but the first I built entirely in my own shop.

I still have a couple of very minor touch ups to do on the top. I am taking a break to get perspective so the very minor touchups do not end up requiring very major rework.

I used a buffer wheel for the first time. In the process (thanks to a very strong grip) I learned the right way and the wrong ways to buff a guitar. The neck is not bolted or glued yet, but the neck angle checks out and is spot on.

On the last steel string I finished I managed to drop a tool at the very end of the setup. I will see if I learned anything.

The back and sides are quilted Spanish Cedar the top is sinker Redwood.
The Finish is ColorTone water based on Zpoxy fill
The headstock veneer, fingerboard and the bridge and the bindings are ebony.
The pearl is Zipflex.

Thanks for looking.

Looks really nice. When doing assembly and set ups cover the top. I use a piece of carpet that's cut out for the bridge and fingerboard. If you drop something really heavy you'll still have a problem but it protects against most stuff.

Looks beautiful, John!!! I'll be interested to hear how she sounds. May I ask what the width of the body is at the lower bout?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks all,

Charlie, The lower bout width is 13 5/16th inches. I followed a template I bought from Waldron Instruments.

The body is 19" the upper bout is 9 3/8th inches and the scale is 24.9

This is a really nice guitar, and your brother is a very lucky man, indeed. I must say that I absolutely love the way you respected the nature of the wood--featuring the streaks in the top, and also featuring some lighter wood in part of your rosette. To my eyes, that is a totally beautiful combination of woods. Looks to be a superb finish and polish job as well. Congratulations! My hat is off to you!

I concur wholeheartedly. Aesthetically I love a 'natural' looking top, complete with some interesting wood-like characteristics.

Great work!!! Good looking side-back and top combo. Love sinker RW. From what I can see your fit/finish are great. Nice slotted headstock. I'm always nervous when I do one of those.

I want to echo how gorgeous the top is. Those dark streaks make the wood look . . . for lack of a better term--real. As though you used real wood and not plastic, perfect, air-brushed abs wood. I love it. I would love to hear it.
