I’m trying to make a Rosette for my next build, this one wound up pretty thin, around .042 It’s not inlaid yet, do you think its okay to use, I don’t think I’ll sand through it when finishing. I’m worried about it warping, shrinking or maybe cracking later on. Any thoughts, SA |

What is it made of? You could laminate another veneer to the back of it if you are worried about it shrinking or cracking under the finish. |

A .022 backer veneer (cedar , spruce) glued to your rosette would give you abt .065 just the right thicknesss IMHO for an inlaid rosette, or leave as is |

if you're careful about for deep you route your channel for the rosette, theres no reason 42 isn't thick enough. Go a scoch (as Robbie would say) deeper on the route then bring the top down to the rosettes level. All a veneer is doing is adjusting how deep you route. |

I agree with Zach. Many of the premade classical rosettes are around 1mm thick, which is .039". you just have to be very careful when leveling the rosettte, and or thicknessing the top |

+1 for Zach's answer. I think Cumpiano's book recommends around 0.040" thick rosette pieces. I think. |
