Got one in transit. Can somebody tell me what the diameter of the arbor pulley is? This would the the newer one with the 1" dia shaft. From the specs, it seems it would be around 4".

Thanks,

Pat

Hey Pat, the pulley on the unit is about 100mm or 4". I couldn't get my calipers in there that easily without taking the belt off. But I used a 2.5" pully on my motor to get a speed around 750 rpm, about half the motor speed. Of course it is a 240v motor and I am not sure what speed you get from motors running on the less than optimal 120v.
I found some equations somewhere to help work out the pully size for a given motor speed but didn't keep my working out.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Dom

Hi Pat,

On mine, the outside diameter from rim to rim is 4.5" and the belt runs flush to the rim. With v-belts you subtract 1/2 the belt thickness from the radius to get the effective pulley size....so the effective diameter is about 4".

Thank you, gents. Now I can go shopping for the little stuff so I won't need anything else when it gets here (yeah, right!).

Make sure the shaft is straight before you run it up to speed with buffs mounted (ask me how I found out!) If the shaft isn't straight, you'll find 1" steel very stiff...
