Just to add to the world-wide glut of handbuilt L-OOs, here are a couple more.
One is Amazon rosewood & second growth Sitka. The other is Koa B&S and top.
Hanging in the spray room after the first three coats of nitro.
The Sitka gets a sunburst. An old radius dish mounted on a lazy susan makes this job a lot easier.
A "silver" & abalone vine inlay for the Koa guitar.
I haven't done much colour mixing with FX dyes before. Here is a pic of how I got the colour match I wanted. Putting a drop of each dye onto the paper, straight out of the bottle was a big help. It gave me an idea of how each dye might influence the final colour.
It took a while. Adding a few drops of this & a few drops of that, but I ended up with a shade which compliments the rosewood & the Macassar ebony fingerboard & bridge. (I hope!)
To start, I measured five ounces of lacquer into the jar & then kept track of each drop of dye added. If I have to, I can reproduce the colour.
Looking forward to stringing these two up. Especially the Koa. This is the first non-Weissenborn guitar I've build with a hardwood top.
Tap tuning the Koa presented a whole new set of challenges!
