I never heard of this before yesterday. I had to look it up on the internet to find out just what to call it.
over all length is 27 1/ in
upper bout 7 1/2
waist 6 3/4
lower bout 10 7/8
scale 14 1/2 and strung mandolin strings
body 1 7/8 at the neck block and 2 7/4 at the tail block

It is need of lots of TLC. After being stored in an attic for years, the glue joints have mostly failed due to the heat. The top has caved in due to the string tension and a transverse brace below the bridge coming loose. I have posted some pics so you can get an idea of the damage.
Wish me luck,

cecil

That looks like a fun project. Do you plan to refinish it when your done repairing it?

The original idea was to keep it as is but that may change. I can't find anything at all on the maker (Arthur C Bornson ) so it is not on collectors radar. It was made in 1917 in Michigan but that is all the information offered on the label. A Google search yields only three hits and none of them are associated with instrument making.
I will ask the owner if he wants to pony up for a refinish. It was not in the original quote but he did ask about it.

My best guess is sycamore Alain but I am far from an expert. It was made in Lincoln Nebraska in 1917 so that would have been a plentiful wood in that area at that time.
