| Post subject: | the sound of Koa? |
Hi folks, My latest is an all Koa, I haven't leveled/dressed the frets, or set it up yet, just strung it up for a week on the tonerite first to settle it in, but I couldn't resist a bit of a strum. I've never heard one before so I was wondering what sort of sound to expect? My initial strum told me it was a crisp, woody, fundamental sound that was different to spruce and cedar but very pleasing. Also what type of strings would go well? I'm thinking 80/20's. As usual all comments/advice gratefully received. Ray. |

Koa falls somewhere between Walnut and mahogany. Sort of woody with middle frequency. |

That looks great Ray! What is the bridge made from? |

I used a bit of QS curly red maple to pick up the binding/bevels/fretboard/headstock type theme. I was a bit worried about it because I've never seen it used as a bridge, but it seems to be OK. |
