It seems that most pickguards are aligned along the outside ring of the rosette. Is there a reason for this, other than aesthetics or tradition? I'm currently working on the layout of a pickguard and am considering aligning it with the inside ring of the rosette. This would cover a section of the rosette, of course, but it would offer a bit more protection to the top and in my mockup it looks kind of cool. Before proceeding I thought I'd check to see if there are factors I'm overlooking that might make this a decision I may regret down the road. Your experience and guidance would be appreciated. Thanks, |

I like to align with the middle ring on a 3 ring rosette also. Allows to show off the fancy stuff (herringbone, pearl, radial purfling...) and still a fair amount of protection. Chuck |

Thanks for the replies. I experimented a bit more this evening and am now leaning toward not covering so much of the rosette. Never designed my own pickguard before. It's kind of tricky. Fun, but tricky. Thanks again, |
