Hi I just got a job to fix a Gibson SJ-300. It has the classic crack at the nut end which seems so common for Gibson instruments... I asked if it had been repaired before and he said yes, but for some reason the glue had failed, with no wood damage. I am wondering how can I determine the type of glue that was used in the previous repair, because I want to know why a glue joint would separate. I would like to think he probably used regular white glue, but I don't know... Update: Actually, upon further examination, I realized that the glue did not fail, but it was in fact a new break elsewhere in the joint, it was just so close to the original break that it looked as though the glue had failed. |

If the original glue didn't fail, no reason to unglue it. Just glue the new break. Seems like that guitar is living a hard life! |
