| Post subject: | Wood for laminating sides? |
I was thinking of doing laminated sides for my next build. Does the wood used for the interior wall matter? Could I get away with using something like poplar? Thanks, as always, in advance Steve |

For those in GWN great white north. a double .30 veneer of yellow cedar works well and readily available . S. to usa , southern usa cypress sourced from john bogdanovitch classical gtr makiing book and dvd, I got mine from certainly veneer in buffalo ny. |

Thanks, as always, in advance Steve Poplar will work fine. IME, The inner wood will not color the tone of the guitar. Choose slightly off quarter to rift sawn if you can find it. |

never done it myself, but i have seen alaskan yellow cedar (C. nootkatensis), spruce and mahogany being used with success. poplar (P. nigra) is the wood of choice for the middle lamination in selmer style guitars, so it should work, if your poplar is of similar nature. i don´t think the interior wood is of much importance, provided it is stable and properly dried. good luck, miguel. |
