This is a guitar for a musician friend that wanted a real special instrument. He wanted a special set of Brazilian paired with Sinker redwood but did not want to settle for the average set of wood. I had a few special reserve sets stashed away and after much deliberation we decided to bring one out.
The guitar will be my Zion model with a Florentine cutaway and a few nice accents.
Obviously I am really excited about this build so I wanted to share! bliss

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! That brazilian is just amazing. Is it by any chance a four, or possibly six piece back?
Thanks so much for sharing this build with us!

Awesome wood and AWESOME WORK. I love the rosette. I'm going to be doing a similar one with walnut. Nice idea using magnets to hold the sides. I love the cutaway too. Are you putting CA or shellac, or something down around the rosette and binding before you cut the channels? Thanks, Jason

Outstanding guitar! I'm glad you photographed it in process--I think your fixtures are very interesting, clever, and as inspiring to me as the guitar itself!

Very nice. Really like that picture of the purfling channel. Also that armrest bevel backing piece looks interesting. Is that hand made kerfing too? Looks like the kind with really fine, close together saw cuts (or maybe not)... Eat Drink

Thanks everyone! Your encouragement means a lot to me...
The Kerfing is Ryan's A4. http://www.advancedshelltech.com/Products/A4%20Kerfing/A4-front.html

Jason,
I seal the rosette and bindings channels after cutting them. Only to prevent CA to stain the top.

Very nice work and gorgeous wood but... i am the only one to think this "brazilian" looks much more like a (really nice !) Madagascar rosewood ?

Yeah, before I read the text saying it was Brazilian, I was thinking this looked like the really nice MadRose that LMI was selling back in 2003. The only other sets of Brazilian that pretty are in John Greven's stash.

Peter-

That is a gorgeous guitar - I hope you keep this thread updated with new pics as this is being built.

Thanks-

Back in the day Madagascar was thought to be the best replacement for Brazilian...both visually and tonally.
I wonder why....

Yes, tonally it is the same/very closed, visually some madagascar gives (sometimes) the famous spider webbing pattern that made brazilian famous, but their two different species and in fact I'm pretty sure this is madagascar ;) I saw a lot of madagascar exactly like your wood (in the past, very rare today), but I never saw brazilian like this.
Although, Once again, very nice wood and work ;)
