Several years ago , paul huemiller of dream guitars and al pettyeway, a world class guitarist, both told me their favorite guitar pick ups were the McIntyre Feather. I got two of them and put one in a jumbo six six string acoustic and a very larger acoustic bass built in my shop. Loved the sound . Got six more and put them all in my guitars...every one loved the way they sounded. Got six more and this week and after installing two more for new customers, I got an email from one of them who said, " I LOVE THIS PICK UP!!!" So I wanted to tell every one about this wonderfull pick up. After 36 years of building acoustic guitars I have put every kind of pick up you can buy in my guitars, and I have NEVER liked the results. I really like the sound of these. I hope some of you will give them a try.

McIntyre used to have a shop here in Charlotte. He was the Martin rep locally for some years. Developed his pick-up system in his spare time, eventually stopped doing guitar repair and just made pick-ups right there in his shop. Eventually he moved to a lower cost area to continue his work. Good guy!

I've also heard they're good - are you using a preamp?

They are not very expensive for what is supposed to be a good pick up.
Thanks for the info Michael. I will give one of these a try. Looks like a simple install as well. What pre-amp, if any, would you recommend?

I went to the website,
and they recommend a Baggs DI pre.
I have one of these, and recommend it as well.
Built like a tank,
and lots of knobs.
I use it now for all my pickups, acoustic and electric.
So there.

On the preamp issue, a little clarification please. I get the use of the Baggs DI, but is this pickup internally powered (battery) with a preamp in the jack?

How long they been around? Their website is not very well constructed, and no links for ordering. gaah

Looks like their pickups are passive. So those of you who use them, how do you see them and order them? price?

Thank you every one for your replys,

There are photos of all their pick ups on their web site, and both email for ordering and a phone number right into their shop and they do answer the phone. I have a peavey acoustic amp with built in preamps for my own playing and it works fine. As far as I know any preamp should work. There are no battery packs and feet and feet of wires to install. Great priceing for one, much better break for 6. they are a pleasure to install...very, very easy. BUt best of all is the way they sound. I have installed every thing on the market in the last thirty years and these are the best I have ever heard.

I found this via google search.

http://www.acousticon.com/mcintyre.htm

Not sure if there is mark up here, so it's probably worth sending an email to him to get an accurate price. He says he takes paypal, so it should be a fairly quick process.

I have tried a lot of pickups, and not liked any of them much. This looks like it might be worth a try...

No experience with the pickup, but Stew Mac used to sell them.

I think they make a great pickup. Light as a feather.... I have used several.
Good sound but definitely needs to be used with an external preamp.
