Where is everyone stopping on their fingerboards? I stop somewhere around 320 but have gone as high as 600. I didn't really like the feel at the finer grits....it felt sticky.

Where are you guys stopping? Do you do anything else before applying oil? I just apply oil and call it a day.

Inquiring minds want to know :)

I finish with a scraper and/or 320 followed by fine steel-wool after fretting.

ive only built two, but i went all the way through 2000 on both! softer than a baby's butt! not sticky at all. oil applied, of course.

Similar to Alex. In the past I have gone to 1200G but as soon as I put a finger on the board it just showed prints, even after raising the grain etc. Might be an argument for using oil but I'll stick to the 'scraper grade'.

1200 grit, then buff with a power buffer. I use oil on them afterward.

+1 - I use Homer Formby's lemon oil

I stop at 600,
then use tung oil.
They are for lap steel, so the strings never hit the board.
Let me tell you, that tung oil makes em look real purty!

I use Fret Doctor on all of my fretboards. Love this stuff...
