The can says to let it cure for about 120 hours (5 days). How long do let yours cure? I have noticed shrinking of it even a couple of months after the final coat. |

I usually leave it 4 weeks, 6 would be better if you can wait that long. |

I'm satisfied with the results I get after 5 days but longer, per Rod's suggestion, may be better. I'm just not that patient. |

5 to 6 days is typically long enough for the finished to be buffed to a nice gloss. I typically wait about 10 days, and I will still see a bit of shrinkage after that. The moisture content in wood changes a bit over time, which can also cause some texture to appear in a thin finish. I am not trying for a texture free, glossy finish that will carry a piano gloss into eternity. Rather, I want a finish that is smooth but also thin, so 7 to 10 days has worked well for me. Ken |

As Ken stated, 5 days will give you a great surface to buff but you will still get shrink back for a couple more weeks. I would recommend at least 2, preferably 3 weeks. |

On the most recent one I did, I let it cure for about 7 days. Then I sanded and buffed. It still looks great, but I can feel the grain on the top and figure on the back a lot better now (sitka, curly maple). A little strange.... |

I don't think a certain amount of "telegraphing" of the grain lines in the top will ever be avoided (actually, I like the look). When moving from Ultima, I cut back to 2 weeks cure (from 4 wks) because 6000 was supposed to be faster curing. But I've also seen some shrinkage on backs, so I'll be bumping up cure times as Rod suggests to see if that solves it. |
