Just finished the second of two Weissenborns. Bruce at Notable Woods selected large enough pieces of koa that I could nest two guitars in six pieces of wood. Maple binding, KTM-9 over Z-poxy, built from a combination of the MIMF and StewMac plans with a lot of input from Weissenborn builders on this forum.

Slight differences in bracing - one is more or less traditional X with the straight cross brace and D shaped bridge plate, the other has angled tone bars (as per a recent article in American Lutherie). The traditional one seems to have a little fuller bass, the other one a little more complex mids. Both have incredible sustain.

Beautiful work Freeman! That is some nice wood! How about posting a sound clip?

It'd be really interesting to get a side by side comparison of these two. Borrow a really good mic from someone and do it! [:Y:]

Working on it. I present No 2 to its new owner tonight - I'll have him play both and record them. It should be an interesting comparison because literally everything else is identical.

I don't know anything about this type of guitar, but I sure know when my artistic sensibilities have been stimulated, and I think these twins are quite beautiful. I'm glad you posted them. Thanks!

Nice, Freeman!
I've wanted to build 2 the same.
Mine are all different woods,
and all sound different.
[:Y:] [clap] :D

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. My best laid plans to record the two guitars and post clips got waylaid - the new owner came over, played both and we both agreed that there is a fairly significant difference. I turned on the little Zoom, thought I had some nice clips of both, he selected the one he wanted and was on his way. Next day I realized that I had a mic switch wrong and the clips are no good.

We will redo them because I think there is a lot we can discuss about the differences and I will start a new thread with pictures of the bracing and some build notes.

Meanwhile my buddy emailed me that he was up all night learning new Weissenborn songs for his set list.

Beautiful creations Freeman!

You just woke me up... I have a pair of the same waiting for strings, I think I can hear them pouting in the shop right now...

Again well done. They are stunning.

I'll be checking back to hear their voice.

Thanks for sharing!

_Mike
