Hi all! simple question (i hope): i´ll be adding a diamond plate for truing my waterstones (probably an Atoma 400, but i haven´t yet discarded a DMT duosharp XC/C) and i´m wondering if using it for sharpening my plane blades and chisels (i still have some vintage stuff i have to rescue with severe nicks) will compromise its flatness. thanks in advance, miguel. |

Miguel, You can true your waterstones with a wet sandpaper on a flat surface. |

In the Neander forum there seems to be a slight bias towards the Atoma (Tsuboman) diamond stone when considering the 1200 grit variety, the 8000 diamond stone OTOH i believe it´s only available from DMT - for just 60 bucks, i´d take the plunge. BTW, what honing stone do you use if you don´t mind me asking?Filippo cheers, Miguel. |

Antonio wrote: Miguel, thanks for the reply. yes, i know and that´s how i usually do it ... i true a coarse stone (320, IIRC) with sandpaper and use it to true the finer stones. i´m just trying to improve the logistics and portability of my set-up.You can true your waterstones with a wet sandpaper on a flat surface. um abraço, Miguel. |
