My first build was a complete mess that was so bad I never put strings on it but it was a great learning experience. I strung up my next build last night and I'm pleased with the results. I had to overcome many mistakes and issues but hopefully I've learned from them and the next build will be that much better. The back and sides are Black Walnut I cut from wood provided from a friend, the top is Sitka Spruce, and the neck is a 3 piece laminated neck of Mahogany and Black Walnut. The only thing it is missing is the black humbucker pickup and duel thumbwheel controller that mounts under the fingerrest. Now I'm going to practice on pore filling and finishing on scrap pieces of wood because those are areas I am seriously lacking in! Build number 3 is now in the works! |

That looks fantastic. Remember, for your second one you have to work twice as hard. Complacency is your worst enemy. |

Kevin: That is outrageously cool in my estimation! Wonderful! Don't you just love walnut? I don't care that it's not the norm for these arch top beauties. I don't care. Don't you just love it? It looks beautiful. It sounds beautiful. What's not to love about it? Looks to me like you did a great job on this archtop. And your selection and joining of back halves is excellent. I think that was a very artistic decision. Okay, man....What's next? I really want to see it ...whatever it is! Patrick |

That's a beautiful guitar. Great job. I'm always curious as to how these archtops sound. I don't know anyone that owns one. At least not a good one and yours looks to be a good one. I'd love to hear it played. |

Thanks for the great feedback. This is an addictive hobby and I'm looking forward to learning and building many more guitars! I'm almost done with a back plate I'm carving out of some nice Oak. It looks like I'll have my work cut out for me filling the pores on this one! |
