Following on from my last thread, I'd be interested to know what you would like to know - I'm putting together ideas for the follow up to my recent book about lutherie "Between the ideal and the possible" There are a few things i want to cover but is there anything you would like to know that isn't dealt with in the forum or in the books you already have? Any thoughts? nigel http://www.ypdbooks.com/photography/366 ... 00333.html http://www.nkforsterguitars.com/nkforst ... /home.html |

Yes, how to work successfully. Whether as a serious amateur or a professional, and however we define "success". I have been self employed for about 20 years. My first training was at art school and received a lot of training in craft, theory, and history. Precious little at being successful, let alone any entrepreneurial skills. I've had to work very hard to achieve the modest success that I have but it was a tough slog figuring things on the fly. I'd love to see case studies of a variety of luthiers which address the variety of issues in running a successful lutherie practice. All the way from the home hobbyist trying to achieve "success" on their first instrument, through to the dedicated hobbyist working to a higher standard of "success", to various levels of professionals. |
