It's not like you can really use that freshly resawn wood for anything anyway. You need a hobby! |

Sounds like a good time to get the shop really cleaned up and make those tools you've been wanting to do for years now ![]() |

Don Williams wrote: It's not like you can really use that freshly resawn wood for anything anyway. You need a hobby! Now that you mentioned it, I was gonna ask this eventually. The lumber I dropped off is pretty dry and on top of that it's been drying at my shop for a good amount of time. Once resawn, how much longer for the drying process? If it's pretty dry, couple months? If not dry enough, kiln drying is an option I have, but if I decide to let it air dry, then couple months? Years? Thanks in advance |

Hi, depending on the specific species and thickness of the boards having been resawn, i would more consider about drying longer for years, not for month. Even if a board is years and years old, after resawing there will be plenty of tension, or released tension which will have to arrange themthelve new. Best regrads, Alex p.s. need help in workshop, payment is best perfect clean bavarian beer, as much as you can drink... http://www.lohrer-bier.de/de/keiler/vorschalt/ |

If the billet was completely dried and seasoned then you can use the wood almost immediately. Waiting a few days wouldn't be a bad idea just to make sure there is any undue tension in the set. However, if the wood is not entirely dry, then I would suggest waiting at least a few months to half a year before using the set. If the wood is still somewhat wet, then I would wait at least a full year. You also have to consider the species of wood. Very hard, dense woods will take longer to dry. |
