i´m thinking of buying this, mainly to cut plywood and make jigs. does anyone who knows it / bought it care to chime in with advice? is it worth it, or for the price i´m just buying a shiny piece of junk? link: http://www.axminster.co.uk/jet-jet-jts- ... 8c34088e85 thanks in advance, miguel. |

Yo, Miguel This is a hobby rated bench saw. Me suggest if you wanna buy a table saw to get a belt driven cabinet makers sawand not a carpenters or hobbiest saw with the blade mounted on the motor. blessings ![]() |

I agree with Padma. You may only want it for cutting ply, but eventually you will want to do more, and it won't be up to the task. Cutting thick hardwood for necks would be a chore on this machine, and an under powered machine is more dangerous for kickbacks, even on plywood. Plus, it will sound like a jet taking off. Alex |

I don't know this particular saw, but bought something similar from Lidl for about 60/70 euros some 6 years ago., without a stand - I just made one. I still use it occassionally (which is all it was bought for) for cutting pieces of ply for jigs and other things my bandsaw is not big enough to handle width wise. Yes, it's very much a hobby saw - it's very noisy (ear muffs and ear plugs!), has a 2/3 mm convex cast alloy bed, the rip fence has to be clamped at the back to be anything like stable, The Mitre fence is flimsy. Anything I cut with it has definitely has to be dressed to straight and square . But it has the same power as this one, which is adequate to cut (softwood) up to its maximum cutting depth (80 mm?) with care and setting up, more than adequate for 18 mm birch multi-ply for jigs, etc. And it had the advantage that it was all I could afford at the time, and was light and easy to store out of the way. Basically it is just a reasonably big cheap hand held circular saw fitted to a very basic table, so just be aware of that. You get what you pay for. By all means get a better table saw if you can afford it, or find something better second hand which may need some work. |

I bought the similar model, but earlier version for my carry in my truck for work. Good points are, it's very light, it cuts okay, but not very good, it will cut wood if you put a 7 1/4" blade on it. It's light. Basically, it's better than nothing. Would I buy one again? No. Did I mention that it is very light? That is it's best quality. It's also cheap. Get an old Delta Homecraft or something. |
