Does anyone know where LMI gets their fiber veneer black and white paper from? i'd like another source perhaps in larger sheets. thanks b |

Most likely Gurian's ... it comes in 6 inch wide rolls that they cut to length, except for the really thick stuff, like the 60 thou and thciker .. it comes in 48 wide sheets I think and they cut it down to whatever you want ... But they have a min order .... get some bridge pins and other lam sheets made up .. you'll blow thru it fast ... |

It's called fish paper and can be found in quantity and large sheets from many industrial suppliers, and in many colors. Also try searching for vulcanized fiber. The primary use is electrical insulation. You may find that there are large minimum purchases when buying wholesale. |

I have used both veneer and fiber,but prefer the veneer . The veneer I use is dyed Costello (boxwood) from www.certainlywood.com -which is a great veneer company. |

Wood scrapes better than fibre, as long as it is not figured. |

constantines.com has very high quality dyed veneer in different thicknesses at very resonable prices. The black sheets I have purchased have been perfecly flat and thicknessed uniformly. I always have trouble getting the veneer to go black. I've tried all the "tricks" people say to do but I can't ever get it pitch black for whatever reason. What am I missing, short of just painting it? I use wood now, so I guess it doesn't matter, but I'm curious. |

I use wood now, so I guess it doesn't matter, but I'm curious. right before i start the finishing process, i take a straight razor blade and gently go around and do a quick scrape of the bindings and purflings. this bring up a fresh layer of the black and it is pretty jet black. sanding seems to roughen it and greys it so i do a final scrape right before i start filling & spraying |
