I was just glueing up my 1st electric archtop neck. I was wondering what angle you all prefer in SS acoustic, archtop, or electric, and why the degrees would matter. Or does it matter that much? Jason |

It matter because the strings have to meet the bridge at the right height. This is not just a matter of neck angle, but also fretboard thickness, neck elevation and bridge type. For an archtop you are aiming for an adequate but not excessive break angle over the bridge, so the tailpiece design can be relevant too. On a solid body electric you generally have the Fender type (low) of the gibson tunomatic type (high) On a flat top you are normally aiming for a particular string height at the bridge 1/2" is common. Too little and the bridge is too low to drive the soundboard, too much and you may end up with structural problems. So it is really a matter of deciding on the end result you want and working towards that. A side elevation drawing from nut to bridge or though to the tail for an archtop is helpful. |
