What do you guys use on your plate jointing jigs to prevent the plates sticking to the jig? Wax, tape, wax paper, melamine? Thanks in advance! |

I use the old rope & wedge method & (after trying candle wax) have put clear plastic packing tape on the "sticks". Works like a charm. |

in my joining jig I use a strip or two of shipping tape down the center. It's been there for the past 50 guitars or so and working just fine. |

Hi Tony, what type of jig do you use? On my previous one(Cumpiano style jig, with wedges) I used a melamine covered backing plate, it worked fine. I now use this set-up, which I like better. For one thing, it allows better air circulation. ![]() Lots of folks are probably going to tell you to use masking tape to clamp the plates, which makes a dedicated jig redundant. |

Thanks for the input guys. Arnt, I just have a simple rope and wedge lattice gizmo. This is my new one (actually I have a few) to replace the old one. Whats cool about it is that I made a special base for it to sit on while I am working. Once glued up you can swap it out for another and keep working. Tape works fine too, but I just feel better using something more secure and this works well (esp for the long plates I join). Your setup also looks sweet (and less time to make!). Here I have the jig faces taped off using masking tape - which is OK, but you guys always have the best ideas! |

Tony, I have the same jig. I went to lowes and bought a couple strips of that plastic flooring material that looks like wood. It has a very sticky backing. I cut it in to narrow strips and put it on anything that came into contact with the wood being joined. Mike |

Tony, I just use parchment paper. Works good and has less wax than wax paper. ![]() |

Wax paper works for me, I use the tape method with hide glue to join then press between a couple plywood boards with wax paper over the joint overnight. Fred |

I use a simplified rope and wedge thingy with packing tape to keep it from sticking. Attachment: picture-14.jpg Someday I might pimp it out with small sailboat cleats to secure the rope. ![]() Pat |

The admonishment avoid wax paper is a good one. Though, I am surprised to hear that parchment contains silicone. Really? The kind used for cooking? Mike |

I just use news paper. And as far as a clamping jig I simply use masking tape stretched perpendicular to and across the joint. |
