Well, this is my first spray job and i have encountered sand throughs during final sanding. Each spot is small- no larger than a quarter, but there are about 6 or 8 of them. Obviously, I over did the sanding a bit. So, how do I fix this? Is it a matter of scuffing the surface (it has now been sanded to 2000 grit and buffed- because I wanted to try it) and then respraying a few coats? Or, can I simply do a couple of touch up sprays in those areas? Thanks in advance. |

I've learned - and relearned - and learned yet again that you do need to respray the entire area where you sanded through. With 6 or 8 sand thru's I'd respray everything. I've found that I need to have about 20 coats in order to prevent sand thrus. Also, I start sanding with 600 grit and go up thru 2000 before buffing. One other thing that helps is to sand level using 400 grit before you do the last couple coats. This reduces the amount of sanding you need to do at the end in order to level everything out. Trev |

Yes, Same as Trevor. Scuff sand with 400 and respray the whole surface. The EM6000 burns in perfectly so it just means a couple more days work. Good luck Mat |

Since em6000 has nice melt -in properties, reapply 20 coats. Do what was suggested above. This should take about 2-3 days to do. Lightly sand between days. Use mineral spirits to clean. After 20 coats, let set for a few days. Then sand with high grits. I wet sand with mineral spirits above 400. Layer thickness for each spray is about 0.0003-0.0005". 20 or so coats will get you to around 0.007". Mike |
