Post subject:  HVLP folks ... have a question

I have a conventional air compressor and would like to use HVLP gun with it. I have experience with a standard gun but HVLP is another issue. Any suggestions other than get a turbine set up. That is not likely at the moment.

The best place to come for sound advice.

What you want is a conversion HVLP gun. They work with a regular compressor instead of a turbine. Lots of variety around. I use a gun made in Italy called Walcom. Works great.

I've been using a Wagner HVLP conversion gun for the last year or so. It can run off of a small pancake type compressor without any problem. Although I haven't used it for guitars, its done a nice job spraying stain, paint and EM2000 on kitchen cabinets.
It is all stainless steel, and easy to clean, and fairly inexpensive. I paid $185 atHomeDepot, but it is much cheaper in the USA.
http://www.gleempaint.com/hvcongunnew.html sells it for a good price. I'm sure there are other good sprayers out there, but the reviews were pretty good on the Wagner. Thats my 2 cents worth, I hope it helps.

Plenty of good conversion guns out there. Check out http://www.homesteadfinishingproducts.com/index.html. Jeff knows his stuff and will answer any questions you might have. I ended up with a Qualspray (Homestead's personal brand) QS-125WB for spraying EM6000. I really like it, and the price is right.

+1 on the conversion guns. Some good one's available for under $100.

One eBay seller has the Walcom EGO kit for $200. Can't beat the quality and that price is close to many discount guns.
