I have to agree with VerHeeberSlapper! I love it too! When Brazilian started getting scarce a lot of veneer mills turned to Pau Ferro as a substitute. It looks awesome when you can get the right board. Has a good long tap too.

Here's a 4 piece back set.

Okay, I'll try to keep an open mind. The Pau Ferro I've encountered didn't have much of a tap tone. Maybe those were just bad pieces. I like the figure from across the room, but up close it just doesn't do much for me. Easy pore fill is always nice, though. And I do love sharpening tools.

It's one of my favorite bass guitar fretboard woods.
Phenomenal ringing when tapped with a finger doesn't always equate to great tone, and vice versa.

I built a Pau Ferro OM - topped with Sitka. I really like it. It's loud, and sonically I'd put it a bit closer to the rosewoods than mahogany, in terms of sustain, but with a lot of volume (yeah, I know, probably has more to do with the top, but anyway) and strong fundamentals. Just got back from ASIA, and had a ball listening to really talented guitarists like Millard Brown jam on it into the wee hours.

I also like that it's relatively cheap and needs no pore filling. I didn't have trouble with it re: dulling tools, but thicknessed it with my drum sander, so didn't really get a feel for how it planes. Bends very easily.

I'd have no issues with building with it again.
