I was watching a guitar show called "Guitar Picks" , hosted by Toronto guitarist/DJ Kim Mitchell last night, and there was a segment on a young man building an 8 string electric, and he was being mentored by Tony Karol.
The segment wasn't very in depth, but maybe Tony can fill us in on how it came about, and any details he would like to share.

Alex

The first time I saw Max Webster was in downtown Oshawa Ontario, 1972. Kim was wearing red one piece long johns with a button trap door! I saw them many more times at school dances, but the first time was the best! It was sad when Pye Dubois left the band.

Hi Alex,

I heard about Kim's show but am unable to find it (I am on Cogeco in Oakville). Would love to see the segment - I built a guitar under Tony's tutelage - I was also working in his shop when that 8 string was being built - very cool!. Tony is a great guy and a great builder - love to see him get the plugs.

Cheers
Rick

Hi Rick! The show is on Treasure HD, and it is on Cogeco. http://www.treasurehd.ca/index.php?opti ... 2&Itemid=8
I just finished watching the rest of that show, and they had an interesting segment on Santa Cruz guitars, and their expanation of their voicing of guitars, as opposed to cookie cutter luthery.
I could only dream of having the chance to work with someone like Tony. It must have been a great experience!

Alex

Hey all,

I got the call a few weeks back from Josh, who built the 8 string with me, about the TV show being done on him and the 8 string. When talking to the producer, he asked me what types of things I built, and the fact I made harp guitars seemed appealing to him .. so .... they are fliming here tomorrow for a show on me making harp guitars !!! Local harp guitar player extrordinaire Carter Lancaster will be dropping over to play my Belair, and I believe he will also be the subject of one of the future shows. All in all, htis is pretty cool.Had no idea the show was aring so soon .. need to go and watch that one.

I had no idea that Kim Mitchell was the host ..he was my guitar playing hero in high school.

TX Alex. Yes learning from Tony was a highlight for me. I learned so much, had a hoot every time I went to his shop and got a great guitar that I couldn't be more happy with.
