Funny how quickly time passes when you are trying to finish a guitar. Well, after a few years I finally made the final push to wrap up my first! Ready to start my next and am sure it should move quicker! ;)

Here are the details:

Small Jumbo (similar to an Olson SJ)
Lutz Double Top
Claro Walnut Back and Sides (with nomex double sides and internal linings)
Curly Maple and Walnut multi laminate neck
Curly Maple Bindings
Ebony Bridge, Fingerboard, & Headplate
Varnish Finish (Rockhard)

Thanks for looking (and all those who helped along the way!)

Wow ... Brad ... that is stunning work ... congratulations. If that's what you do on your first, I can't even imagine what you'll be turning out next!

Very impressive finish work to say the least.
And I appreciate the neck woods combo--tasty!
Good stuff, Brad.

First guitar that looks as good as just about any guitar and a double top no less. Very nice design taste. Some folks are just born to do this work. CONGRATS Brad, super job.

WOW first build a double top? Thats quite a feet. Do you have pics of the construction process? I built my first double top a few months ago, after about 18 years of building :). I'd love to see how you did it. A sound clip would be nice too.

Nice work on the first build. I'm always amazed by first build pics here on OLF.

Beautiful! Nobody would think it was your first if you did not say so. If is sounds half as good as it looks, you are surely a happy man!
How did you find the Rockhard to work with? I hear it self levels very well when you apply it. Is it as hard as a lacquer finish? As durable? More durable?

Overall I was pleased with the Rockhard. Since I don't have a spray boot I decided to use Rockhard so I could use a brush to apply. I was able to get decent results but it would ideal to spray since the finish has a good amount of amber color and if applied unevenly then the hue of the wood will look uneven. The hardness is fairly soft in my opinion vs other finishes but overall not a bad option that is fairly easy to work with. Also, since the layers of finish to melt together like Lacquer then it is easy to sand through coats and end up with whitness lines from prior coats. Everything has a learning curve! ;)

not really sure I like guys like you who can build such an instrument on their first trip to the rodeo. I'd kind of like to come over to your place and hammer a couple of 16 penny nails into the headstock so you could hand it up better.............Beut tee full worki. laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe
