I just installed the extension kit to my Delta 14" band saw. Everythig was pretty easy. When I put on the new 105" blades they are too short. I tried 2.
Has this happened to anyone else here?
What can I do?

I came across an old Buffalo 14" (for $40) that is supposed to be the same as the old Delta frame. . . Somehow, it takes a 92 inch band.?. I put a riser kit on it (cost more than the saw) and have to use 104" blades. I haven't found this to be a problem since the blades I use are made to whatever length you order. I get good results on a junk saw, so if you order a 105 1/2" blade, I think you'll be really happy.

Steve check the axel assembly up top. Sometimes if you don't have it tilted right it won't slide down in order for you to mount the blade. Once it's on just straighten the wheel and bring it to tension.

Make sure the blade tension mechanism is not hanging up and stopping before going all the way to the bottom of the channel.

Oops, good call. I assumed that the tensioning mechanism was checked when checking the alignment of the riser and verifying the wheels are coplanar after installation. Now that I think about it (since 105 should be the right size), a problem with the tensioner is the more likely culprit.

on my delta 14" the bolt head for the tensioner actually hit the metal housing for the wheel and would stop it from going down . I ground back a small u shaped area and the problem went away . Check that !

Measure and buy new blades?

I had the exact same problem - early 90's model that was still USA made.

(2x the distance between the centers of the wheels) plus (the diameter of a wheel x pi). Do it with the tensioning wheel raised about 1/3 of the way up from bottom.

I took the extension off and then had a machine shop remove 0.125" from each end. The 105" blades fit perfectly now.

Good fix Steve! Now you can use standard size blades.

That's what I was hoping for. Without the riser the saw used a standard blade length. I did not want to have to order a custom length.
