I'm wondering if any brands other than Behlen and McFadden are viable choices when it comes to solvent based lacquers. These are industry standard names and I expect there are good reasons for that but perhaps there are other choices?

I've used Mohawk on about 75 Acoustic guitars and was very happy with it. I recently switched to a CureUV system.

Sherwin Williams makes excellent nitrocellouse lacquer. The product number is T70CT1. I believe it's only available at their commercial stores, but the other (homeowner) stores can probably order it.

The only I ever used was DuPont and whatever it was that Gibson used to send me back before they moved to Nashville.

I use Deft. You can brush it or thin and spray. Very happy with it and my local Lowe's stocks it for $45 a gallon or so. The also carry the rattle cans of Deft nitro as well. Never used those though.

ML Campbell has some great products, maybe a little more work to find the products though.
