Yes, you must fill out a 3-177, http://www.fws.gov/le/pdffiles/3-177-1.pdf and declare the genus, species and country of origin for each type of animal product on your instrument, including nuts and saddles. David, we will be having a fairly comprehensive symposium on Lacey, CITES and related topics with regard to import and export of finished instruments, parts, lumber, shell and so forth at ASIA next month, Saturday June 11 starting at 9am - around noon. In attendance will be folks from Fish and Wildlife, APHIS, as well as EIA -- Environmental Investigative Agency. We're going to discuss the relevant laws and how to be in compliance. We tried to get someone from Customs and Boarder Patrol, but they declined due explaining that they had a meager budget and staff.... |

Interesting David about nut and saddles .. I talked to the closest (for me) regional USFW guy in NY state .. he said no need to declare domestic cow bone used for nut and saddles .. so I didnt .. the guitar went thru fine (Canada to US, with Lacey and USFW papers), just took two weeks to clear customs - so much for paying for 2 day shipping service. |

Thanks David, So the two USDA forms 3-177 & 3-200-32 are what is required? By the way, any clue as to genus & species of Water Buffalo bone from Vietnam? My supplier does not know. I have to ship before the ASIA meeting, I hope no policy changes are made at that meeting, unless it is for less reporting. |

Tony, most bone coming into North America is either from China or elsewhere. I know the stuff I get from Christie is from China. The 3-200 is for anything that has CITES governed stuff, i.e., Brazilian rosewood, and if you need the 3-200, you probably are going to need to get an export permit from APHIS as well. -- db |

The ASIA website has several recent updates on their CITES/Lacey workshop at the 2011 Symposium, and NAMM has a recorded webinar and PowerPoint presentation on their website. |

I'm filling out these forms, and there really isn't a place to list all the species of woods used in the guitar, only guitars with Brazilian Rosewood is specifically asked about. The other one is only for shell, and its value. |
