I will be making the head on my guitar with pegs like a violin. how wide will the head be and where to drill the hole in the peg?

thank you for your experience.

I am sorry for my bad communication. I am wanting my guitar to be like the old style. six violin pegs on the back of the head. I am wondering how wide to make the head from top to bottom and where I should be drilling the hole in the peg for to put the strings.

You can make it any thickness you want since you are not constrained by the tuning gears plate. Have a look at pics of old Spanish and American guitars, the former look on the thick side, the later thin.
I will finish a steel string with Peghed geared pegs and I did mine .650", but that is constrained by the Peghed design and thread depth.
I'd say do not go thinner than .500" and no thicker than .850".
