Holy crap, you've been busy! I didn't do much this weekend. I played with my kids most of the day on Saturday (I'm in med school so that's unfortunately not as frequent as I would like) and then worked on my grinder (I am a hobbiest knifemaker as well). Today I went to church and spent the rest of the day with my family (wife and 3 kids ages 3 weeks to 5 years). Nice relaxing weekend! Oh, and spent way too much time online looking/fantasizing about building guitars! |

When uncrating my brand new u.v. cure system from UVCure.com I managed to drop the $250 bulb and it broke on the floor. They packaged the bulb by simply rolling it up like a cigar in bubble wrap that was the same width as the bulb. The delicate ends were exposed. Then they slid that into a cardboard tube but didn't close off the ends of the tube. I lifted the tube out of the packaging with no reason to think I should hold it level.... ....and it slid out of the tube, bounced off my table, and broke as it hit the floor. It was beyond ridiculous. Did I scream profanities? Not saying...but when I described their packaging to Myra at uvcure.com she graciously agreed to send a new bulb. That restored my faith in them. I'm sure their shipping dept. just made a mistake in their packaging procedure. Other than that....I sanded and prepped four guitars for finishing. As soon as I get the new bulb (shipped out Thursday) I'm going to do bunch of tinting experiments....fun stuff. |

Been binding and trimming my latest build. And to legitimize this being in the luthiers pages, I started routing for the binding on my ellle-zero-zero. Always a stressful operation as so much can go wrong. I'll get some photos of that soon. I also am dealing with an web host that seems to have left the building unannounced. I managed to get my domain name to point to my blog, which is something at least. I had a sneaking suspicion that this might happen so I'm not too shocked. Still, it sucks. Other than that, cooking, cleaning, getting after my kids to do their chores...the usual. |

I reglued two loose braces in a client's Takamine flattop, repaired a 2 inch crack in the spruce top, and did a complete fret level. He gigs quite frequently around the area and had a rare weekend off. It was buzzing and making some pretty weird noises when he handed it over, and now it's back to the dulcet tones it's expected to produce. He heads into the studio to work on his 4th CD come Tuesday, so I'll deliver it tomorrow. I can hardly wait to see him smile! |

Nice stuff! Todd you are a busy guy. The work looks very well done indeed. Your customers are very fortunate. Got to playing with colours and an air brush. Final coats of nitro on my first burst. Maple / Cedar L-00 I think I like it. Attachment: phpu15Tn5PM.jpg And the flip side. Attachment: phpUpfdD9AM.jpg Plenty of time to let it cure. The 2010 commercial prawn season starts on Thursday. I know exactly what I'll be doing everyday for the next 2 months. Now if I can just find the darn boat! Attachment: phpo6UV9jAM.jpg Have Fun! Danny Scarf-o-matic! Good thinking. I may have to borrow that idea. |

I had a great weekend in the shop, the Cocobolo wedge buffing was completed, the dovetail neck and bridge were glued up. I will do the bridge pin holes and string up later today. I have some pictures but were taken with my Ipod so are not as clear as I would like. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fred |

Todd Stock wrote: Love the breasthook and the stern sheets details, Douglas. The lack of anything remotely level, square, or plumb raises the larger issue of why we so deeply attracted to eye-sweet curves, breathtaking details, and occasionally...OK, mostly... incomprehensible behavior. And then there are guitars, boats, and airplanes. Thanks, Todd, I appreciate that you even know the proper term for the stern sheets! I do try and supply "eye-sweet curves, breathtaking details, and occasionally...OK, mostly... incomprehensible behavior." Especially the incomprehensible behavior. Filippo, thanks for calling for a steady stream on the boat photos. This one has been a lot of work, from designing and lofting the plans, making the mold, etc, etc. I've been on this since January and I'm not done yet. Buddy wants a sail rig for it, now, too. Looking forward to the simplicity of building guitars. |

Filippo, love your sled! I feel one of those coming on. Scarfs are currently more uncomfortable to me than V-Joints. Dougllas - love your boat! Keep posting those pictures. Good craftsmanship deserves to be seen. I got diagnosed with Pneumonia, so I have gotten nothing done. I really have a lot to get done though! |

Wow, Waddy, get well soon! You guys all do such fantastic work, it never ceases to amaze and inspire me. I had a busy weekend as well, but did manage to put my new/old drill press to work... ![]() And to wipe a couple of coats of varnish on the L-00 I'm trying to get done -- before I make another mistake! ![]() |

Got this 0 size florentine cutaway top braced and rough carved. This will be my first attempt at voicing with Chladni patterns. Still have a lot of trimming to do, so now I need to start looking at some patterns. Chuck |

Just about ready to close the box on a 550 scale flamenco requinto prototype I've been working on for a while now. It's been fun and here are a few photos, one comparing the 550 to my normal 650 Reyes style body. Attachment: DSC00099-Medium.jpg Alaskan Yellow Cedar body Attachment: DSC00107-Medium.jpg Also found a use for all of the wine corks I've been saving for the last ten years. They are intended as Christmas presents for family and friends. I've only got about 5 more to make. All of the corks have been split on the bandsaw... sure makes them much easier to glue to a backing surface... (and please... I'm not really a wino...) ![]() Attachment: Vino- Medium.jpg
