Hi. I have fairly good experience building electric guitars, and Im ready to tackle an acoustic this summer. I wanted to ask where I can get decent back, sides, and soundboard wood without paying an arm and a leg? Any suggestions? I'm not so worried about beauty or grain patterns, and the tone will be what it will be. This is an experiment. I just want to know what would be a workable, stable, and all around decent choice for these woods. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! thanks. |

have you tried the LMI kit wizard? for giggles i just built a sitka/sapele guitar with maple binding and EIR fretboard, bridge and headplate using their kit wizard for about $250 bucks. thats everything you need to build a guitar, minus strings. that includes the plan of your choice and either free shipping or a "how to build a steel string guitar" dvd by robbie o'brien. thats pretty dang cheap. you can, of course, get as fancy or inexpensive as you want with the kit wizard. give it a try. |

I will second the Zootman at RC Tonewoods, he has everything you will need wood wise to build a guitar and plenty of things to choose from. Call them they are really great to deal with. Another great choice is Shane at High Mountain tonewoods. Fred |
