Post subject:  guitar building plans?
where is a good place to find some guitar plans. I'm looking to build a dreadnought. I have a set of plans but I don't really like them for some reason. any help would be great thanks!

The Stew Mac dread plan is a good one,as plans go.

Any dreadnought plan will work for a cutaway, but you'll have to create your own cutaway shape. Most plans do not include the detail for a cutaway, leaving it up to the builder should they choose to add one.

cool thanks! I see your building a dread from your picture. where did you get your plans?

Micah - yeah, it's my first and it's almost done. bliss I have another dread and a 000 on the bench as well. I have the StewMac dread plans but I don't think I got them until after I closed the box on my first build, which is a Martin kit I picked up on eBay. The kit had the bracing layout drawn on the inside surface of the top and I winged it on the back braces. There is also a huge amount of info here and elsewhere on the Web, about bracing and anything else you need to know. Check out the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum bracing library for lots of info and photos of bracing of modern and vintage guitars, including lots of dreads. I will say the Stewmac plans are very good...probably as good as anything available.
