There is a nice looking jointer for sale on the local Craigs List. Called and it is an Asian guy that wants to get rid of it. He bought a new car and can't fit it in the garage till he sales this thing. He says it's very heavy and runs well but the blades do't look in the best shape.

He said it is made by Cummins. I'm not familiar with the brand Cummins. Is it worth going to look at? Can I get parts for it?

Anything Cummins is a generic Taiwanese tool, probably lower end than most. A jointer is a pretty simple tool, so if the bearings are good, you can get blades, the fence can be locked square and isn't too warped, and the beds are in the same plane it might be OK. I'd check it out carefully though.

If you can find one, and old Sears 6" jointer is a great, inexpensive tool. I had one for 20 years and it was solid, I just needed a longer bed eventually. They are in Craig's list all the time for around $100-150.

Cummins Tools used to do truck/tent sales. You know, pull up with a few truckloads of tools in the local VFW or strip mall parking lot, stay a few days, then push off to the next place. Most of their tools were the cheap Chinese variety... generally not as good as Harbor Freight. I believe they lost a trademark challenge to Cummins Diesel (big suprise) and changed their name to ToolsNow. If you need any info on this jointer, you might try their website (toolsnow.com). I'm with Steve on this one... probably be better off with a Craigslist Craftsman than the Cummins.

I would not get it.

Jointers are incredibly simple but if the tables are not properly aligned or straight, they don't work and are useless.

That's a beautiful Y20 Jim.
