These are some pictures of my first made from scratch guitar. After making 5 kit instruments, classical, steel string, electric and 2 violins I took an intermediate guitarmaking class with Rick Davis at Sound Guitar workshop. I made this is O sized parlor guitar in his class for my daughter. It has Hawaiian Koa back and sides and a western redwood top (bought from Lance on this site last year). I pore filled the back, sides and neck with zpoxy (thanks to Todd’s youtube video). And sprayed the guitar with EM6000. The fret board inlays came from Andy DePaule, I made the hawk and moon on the peghead. I cannot say enough about the opportunity to work with a professional luthier. Working with Rick exceeded all my expectations for the class. I have two new guitars in progress at home we will see how I do. |

I love it John! And it made my day to see your daughter playing it. |

John did a great job on this guitar and was fun to have in the shop while we worked on it! The 0 size is one of my personal favorites and I was happy to have a student who wanted to make one. John's build-from-scratch class was interesting: two students making very different guitars made with very similar woods. I've heard the one and look forward to having both of them together for comparison. |

fabulous. That's was a big milestone for me too, but I was on my own, and made so many mistakes it became a sort of black comedy. Congratulations. I gave my third one to my 12 year old niece, who recently astonished me with a video of her playing lead guitar in a rock band. She was definitely the standout star. These things are worth hanging around to witness. |
