I'm trying to figure out how to upload pics so I thought I'd post my drum sander. It has a 24" aluminum drum, the conveyor is a 100 grit sanding belt the motor failed so I hand crank it for now. It has Acme screws to set the thickness, it goes from around 2" to 0". It took me weeks to build and I have know idea how much it cost me, I don't want to know. I'm very happy with the performance.

That looks cool!
Is that crank (nicely made I might add) on the right to crank the feed?
I don't think I've seen a feed on a home-made job.

Nice work Scott. I like your hight adjustment, a screw on each side is much better than the one in the middle.

You used an aluminum drum instead of wood. I was wondering how you get the drum on the pillow blocks and square to the table. I like the double hole sawdust port and the larger size to handle a glued top. I need to make one of these myself this summer. How much horsepower do you think would be best? A feed table would be nice too, put a hot dog roller machine under it or something. Jason

Thanks guys,

Yep, that's a hand crank on the end, It works okay. I don't have any funds for a new motor. The Aluminum tube is centered on a 5/8 shaft with wood disks inside, It's powered by a 1hp motor. The Acme screws on each side allowed me fine tune the conveyor table to be square with the drum. The dual exhaust ports work great, almost dust free.
