Post subject:  coupling top and back resonance

ok i know nothing of this subject but am very interested to know more,it seems perfectly logical to have the back and top tuned to a different pitch , but what pitch and how do you find the pitch and at what stage of the build do you find the pitch, it seems to me that the best way to find the resonant pitch of a top or back is to tap it when it is joined and hanging free ,but as i say i know nothing of this subject but it just seems the most instinctive way,but to answer my original question, what should the pitch of the top be in relationship to the back. Thanks all Roby

Coincidentally, this was just covered earlier this week in another thread: viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=31529&view=unread#unread

Search the archives for "resonance", "chaldni", and answers by Al Carruth. The quick answer is that you want the back
resonance about a semi-tone above the front. But there's a lot more you need to know to
get it there.

Here's a good paper from his website to help you get started.
