What thickness are your side moulds? Mine are 3", but I made them that way! I am going to start making a wide range of shapes on the cnc machine and see that other suppliers are offering these at 2.25" or so. Is that wide enough? I o=know that at 3" I do have slip the sides sometimes to get the lining clamps on.

Thanks
Shane

Ive done 3", 4x0.75. It works fine for deep bodies, but the smaller sizes it needs to be smaller. OM and OOO are close, but doable. Its more of sanding the profile. You can always shift the sides when glueing the lining on.

Most of the ones I have are made from 3 slices of 3/4" ply, so just under 2.25" thick in total (since most 3/4" ply isn't actually 3/4").
I do have a couple that are 3" (4 slices of ply) but I don't use them anymore for precisely the reason you quoted Shane - they are too thick and I have to slip the sides up/down in the mould to get the kerfed linings in.

I agree with Zach also about "bowl sanding" the rims - it's much easier with a 2.25" mould.

Cheers,
Dave F.

I get that 11/16" plywood from HD which measures closer to 5/8", I stack 4 pieces for 2.5" mold, works great for me.

Shane: 4 X 3/4"=3" for me.Only have 3 shapes but all are the same thickness.Have never used a thinner mold and would be reluctant to do so. Am use to gluing end blocks in the 3" molds and don't mind slipping the sides to do various operations. Think you may have access to cnc,if you do you may want to think about doing the back arch on a custom basis, makes for easy trimming of sides. You would have to know the differance in front to back height of course.

I use 3 layers of 3/4 ply on my 000/OM and 4 layers of 3/4 ply on my D and Jumbo.
