Is it better to rout the neck block before fitting it or after? If after, then should I wait until the top and back are attached or do it after the kerfing is done?

+1 for Todd's answer. There are a lot of chances for mis-alignment if you route the
raw block. I've never had a problem routing after the box is closed. If you look at
Robbie O'brian's toot on YouTube you'll get a good idea how easy it's done.
