pau ferro has good compression strength parallel to the grain and is one of the most stable woods used for bridges. It also polishes real nice as well. ![]() |

I almost bought that same piece! I was secretly happy when someone else (you!) bought it first. My plan was a 4 pc back and sides. |

The board you have reminds me of a ziricote board i have. This is a fretboard i made with it not long ago. |

Chris, That's one beautiful stick for sure. I think your idea of a multi-piece b&s set is excellent. Congrats on the score! ![]() |

My first thought was fingerboards and bridges. I can personally attest to it working well for that ![]() Probably get a least 10 fingerboards and 8 bridges, if all goes well. First cut off 7" from the end, then cut that in half, then slice those into 4 bridge blanks each. Take the remaining 23", cut at an angle to get two pre-tapered fingerboard blocks, and then slice those into 5 (or 6 if you're daring) fingerboards each. But it would make a very good back/side set as well. I am a fan of 4-piece backs, and what a fine coincidence that it's just long enough to use for sides. You can at least get a few bridges out of it along with that. Slice off the sides, then cut off 7" for bridges before slicing the back pieces. Yep, I think this is the way to go. Or maybe slice some of the back pieces before cutting off the bridge block, depending on how the thickness works out in multiples of bridges. Then you can use the offcuts of back slices as headplates too. |

Filippo you are correct...I can...and I will....cuz you know I can't pass up a neat looking piece of wood!!! ![]() Dennis you've got it all planned out for me I see. I've got it sitting comfortably in the wood stash just waiting for that magical moment when I REALLY know what to do with it. All good ideas though! ![]() ![]() |

If it were mine I would get rid of it as fast as I could. I am seriously allergic to Pau Ferro, I was pretty sure I was going to die of a respiratory reaction to it. But it is beautiful. |

Funny yesterday I received some rosewood and it was protected by a defect pao ferro set. My heart nearly stopped in fear when I saw it emerging form the bubble wrap. I carefully picked the piece up with just two fingers, turning my head away, and threw it outside on the balcony. ![]() |

Another Woodcraft score? Quit pawing through the wood and leave something for the customers to buy! |

Pau Ferro makes for a beautiful guitar especially when combined with ebony bindings. It really finishes well and I plan on using it again. http://www.peterjosephguitars.com/Peter ... .html#grid |

Filippo Yeah Filippo, I know. I've tried appealing to his conscience before... but Snig and his conscience get along famously! ![]() Seriously, that's a nice score Chris. Love the black line figure. Reminds me of the Madagascar we were seeing a few years ago. |
