I'm not very allergic to different woods,
and I started a build today with this Yellow Siris,
which is absolutely beautiful!
I bent the sides today, and when they were wet, AAAHHHHHHH!
Golden color!
Varnish will make this stuff look really nice!
Anyway, downside is, It's time to wear a mask for every phase of sanding or planing.
My nose feels like I've been snorting pepper.
IMO, worse than coco.
Hope it's worth using this stuff.
Oh, I might add it was THE most difficult wood I've ever bent.
It's also very soft, for a hardwood.
So, there.

Hey Alan; I feel your pain. (or should I say itch) I resawed a bunch of siris for a friend & my nose & eyes ran like a tap for two hours afterwards! Thought I was gonna sneeze my head off. That was WITH a mask.
I didn't have much trouble when building with siris, but I took precautions after the resaw experience.

I had an allergic reaction to Merabu a few years ago making a neck. I was carving and sanding when all of a sudden it seemed like my lungs were full of water and all my breathing wasnt doing anything. It was like someone shut off my lungs. I got out of the garage and hyperventilated for a while and finally started feeling like I was actually getting oxygen again. I wasnt wearing a respirator (stupid) which I do now, but that was a hell of an experience. I'm not allergic to aything that causes me to lock up like that to my knowledge except Merabu. Too bad, it's a neat looking wood when quartered and it has really interesting black stripes through the grain on a brown base.

Well, this stuff isn't as bad as I thought,
if I use a mask.
I gotta say this build is going pretty good.
No bindings, E I rosewood f.b, (thanks Todd Taggert!), bound with Yel Siris, yel siris markers and frets,
rosewood/ siris/black fibre/siris/rosewood rosette.
2 different woods only.
Yay!
Pics coming someday.

Allergies are a drag...

I used to be sensitive to cocobolo, but once I turned 30 or so, I never had another problem with it. But, I bought an outstanding piece of tightly curly Spanish cedar, and the stuff burns my sinuses like crazy! Hooda thought? Good thing I don't like cigars...
