Does anyone have a gud tutorial on rope binding . Tried to find the one done by hana lima in hawaii , but it has been removed from the internet ????

Here's how I do it....

1. Start with 1/8" thick stock about 24" long. I used maple and rosewood from the hobby wood section at Woodcraft or Rockler.
2. Tilt the table saw blade 45deg and rip 1/4" strips or each. You'll need some type of zero clearance fence or sled.
3. Glue the strips up alternating colors. Start on light and end on dark
4. Sand the glued up board smooth and to the final thickness
5. Cut the glued up board at 45deg angle into strips

I use it as short strips but you can glue them end to end into longer strips

Just put through 1/8 in pcs of 1/4 sawn soft maple and walnut through thickness sander.Thanks quine . Guess you went to creve coeur woodcraft, Found it very difficult to bend rosewood around the tight bends of a tenor uke. Decided to stick with woods that might bend a little easier around those tight curves..

I always make more than I need - happy to supply anyone who doesn't have the equipment to make their own.

Thanks tony are those strips abt 2.5mm each?. I followed another tutorial that cut them at 4o deg.I am the same fellow who e- mailed you abt plans for a weissenborn A &D gtrs . Their small , not the hourglass type cheers

Yep, it can be hard to bend....so many glue joints to soften up when heated. I work with short strips of binding. Maybe 2" long each. I heat the strip on the bench with a clothes iron and then bend it into the binding rabbet. Some people glue on a veneer to the outside to make bending easier. The veneer is sanded off after
