I was going through some top wood (Sitka) that I've had for about 8-10 years and one of the sets had what appears to be mold or mildew spots on it. Has anyone seen this before? I tried to scrape down into the wood to see if it was just on the surface, and though it got lighter, it seemed to go into the wood. I know it wasn't there when I bought it. Anything I can do for it or do I chalk it up as a loss and use it as practice wood. ![]() |

Hydrogen Peroxide usually removes mold from spruce. Most drug stores carry 3% solution, but if you can get 7% solution it is better. Hair dresser suppliers usually carry 7% for bleaching hair. Bob |

That looks like a really nice piece of spruce. Bleach? I would not toss that. Make it for your own git. Mold spruce might be the next buzz-word! |

Well my wife has some of that! But will the peroxide bleach the sound board, showing white spots? |

Maybe something spilled on it. I got concrete on one of mine by accident and almost threw it out but eventually managed to get it clean. |

It doesn't look like mold to me. Put some bleach on a spot out of pattern to see if it goes away. If not , it might be sap. and you might need to set the pitch by cooking the top. Mold doesn't go deep most the time and can be sanded off. |
