Hi guys! I am looking forward to seeing a bunch of you at A.S.I.A. I splurged and went for Air Conditioned room this time!
#2 is in the final phases of French Polish. Starting #3. I am building this one for my first client! A local buddy.
He wants a Mahogany/Lutz Dred with a Florentine cutaway, like his 30 year old Fender stage guitar.
How do I bend and join to achieve the Florentine Joint? Any, all advise is appreciated!

If I recall correctly, Rod True did a tutorial several years ago.

I just did this for my third guitar. I'm not sure if you use an Iron, but I do and I just bent one side normally, then for the next side, I bent everything except for the upperbout. I then cut off the upper bout and bent that to the tight curve of the florentine cutaway. After everything was bent I joined every thing in stages, starting with the cutaway on the neck block, then the left side to the neck block, then the left side and the lower bout of the cutaway side to the end block. I then made a small block for the cutaway and made the correct angle with my block plane. I then glued this to the right side and then glued the full cutaway together with C clamps, rope and small bungie cords :D I will post a pic tomorrow after my fever goes down

I bend mine like this .. I cut the piece off before bending the rest of the lower side as well ... The name was coined by one of my students, Rick Cowan who also hangs out here ...
