Anybody remember way back when "Clapton's Guitar" book was being passed around the world? I think it was Rod's idea and book. Shane and I were at the end of the list I think. Anyone know where it might be? It never made it to my part of Canada.

If you want to start a book trip be my guest :)

Rod,
I have the book (Clapton Autobiography)..................Almost.

I got the book about two years ago and a few months later got deployed in the Army. I am now in Fort Benning and the Clapton Book is in Illinois. I'm due to go on leave in March, I'll send it your way ASAP. I'm a bonehead for letting this happen but I'll get it squared away.

For folks who are finding it hard to contain the suspense,if you have access to a libery they may have a copy.Generally not a very big line up for the publication there. I understand a
lot of folks want to read the one that is traveling and I understand that.

Ya Tom, this one is all about the journey ;)

No worries Hutch my friend. You couldn't have had it for 2 years though you think? did you get it from Larry P?

When you get back home, just send it on to who ever is next on the list that would be great. Thanks.

If I remember right, I got it from Dave Higham and the next person on the list was Hank Mauel.

Let me know if I'm way off base.

Allen St. John's writing style may not be to everyone's taste, but as a person who has been there, I will just say that the book is anything but 'over the top'. He has captured the tone and flavor of 'Wayne's World' better than I could have imagined.
Wayne Henderson is exactly the person described in the book. After knowing him for over 25 years, I can say that he is one of the most generous, honest and forthright persons I have ever met. He welcomes everyone into his circle, and a visit to the shop is just like a family homecoming. To someone who only knows Wayne from reading the book, it may seem like a fairy tale. But it is absolutely real. And I am proud to be called one of Wayne's friends.

John,

I'm delighted to hear that the book is an accurate representation of "Wayne's World."

I found this to be a delightful book, an entertaining and optimistic read, and if the book is written using some hyperbole I chalk it up to Allen St. John's entertaining style of writing.

This book is, literally, what got me thinking about building guitars. Wayne Henderson's passion for building guitars comes across loud and clear. I loved it.

I think some people are missing the point of this thread, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the book "Clapton's Guitar". Rather it is about a particular copy of that book that Rod True sent on a global journey long before many at the OLF today where members.

This particular book has now been read by many from around the globe who have then penned their own comments inside and sent it on to the next on a list which I thought had been printed and placed inside the cover. Being on the west coast of AU, I was the last Aussie member of the OLF to receive and read the book here in Australia. Bob Connor had sent it to me from Melbourne with $20 inside to help cover the cost of getting it to Arnt in Norway..That was a few years back and because I sent a small offering of local woods with it, even with Bob's red spot ($20), it still cost me more than a few brand new copies of that book would have in postage. But that is not the point, it's about sharing 'that' book, reading the comments and knowing that a bunch of guys you have spent a bunch of time with but never actually met have held that same copy in their hands, its not about reading 'a' book.....capiche [:Y:]

Yes Kim...we already established that the Sarge has the book and will be sent along in March. Nonetheless, it's an opportunity to have a discussion and chime in.

I read the book twice and found it a great read. My only disappointment was that Clapton didn't take more of an interest, and that his involvement was minor and almost insignificant. But then, a title of "Wayne Henderson's Guitar" wouldn't have sold nearly as many copies!

Rod...when you eventually get the book back, I'd suggest that you photograph the comments and post them. That would be cool after how long it took for the journey.

Rod True,
Well, I guess I AM way off base. I don't have the book "Clapton's Guitar: Watching Wayne Henderson Build the Perfect Instrument".

The book I have is "Clapton: The Autobiography". It was another book being sent around the globe.

Sorry for the confusion.

Well, they were probably Yankees fans. beehive

I've read this book (not the copy currently traveling around the globe) and I found it to be quite an enjoyable read.

Can't really remember the book, it's been 6 years since it left for the other side of the world.
I do recall that it was a fun read. It's honestly a book about Wayne Henderson and his journey in becoming a guitar maker. It just happens to be anchored to two guitars being built for Clapton. And actually, I think it was the author who got the whole thing set up.....but my memory is rather fuzzy.

The idea with sending the book around the globe was to help build more community here at the OLF. Interesting that there are many who got that book who are no longer here....sad

I honestly don't know who has the book. Larry passed it on to Dave H (?), I'll have to take a look at my word document as to who should have it after Larry and I'll get on it.

JJ, I'm looking forward to one day getting the book back. I will definitely scan as many pages as I can and make a PDF of it all. I'll post it online for anyone to download. That'll be fun.

Thanks Danny for bringing it back up... I was pretty much giving up on it.

I read the book and notwithstanding that I'm a Yankee fan, I thought the book was well done. Allen St John did a good job characterizing the essence of Wayne Henderson in my opinion. What was painfully obvious was that Wayne looks at everyone equally. Just because Clapton wanted a guitar didn't get him any special treatment or place in line than if you or I wanted one.

Wayne came across as a down to earth/salt of the earth kind of guy. If you want a Henderson made, ask him to build one, tell him what you want specifically, show interest in getting it built and be patient. That's the message I took from the book. There were great stories in the book as well.

Fillipo, you are welcome to read my copy of the book if you'd like. At least we're pretty close geographically. I live in Ashburn and you in Purceville. Pm me if you want the book.

OK, according to this thread: http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=16814&hilit=Claptons+Guitar

Rod True's traveling book "Clapton's Guitar" had made it's way back to the USA. It then got held up for a while by the Zootman, who lost it under some stuff for a while before re-discovering it and sending it on its way to Vinman, who had been inserted onto the original list right before Hesh Breakstone.

The last member I can find to acknowledge receipt of the book was JJ at number 16 on the list. So who on the list has it now?? If the folks on the list from JJ Donohue on can let us know if they had received the book, and, who it was on the list that they had sent it to when done, and all those who have never received the book could confirm that is the case, we may be able to narrow down who it is that has done a Zootman, kick them in the pants, and get things on the road again. [:Y:]

EDIT: OK..so we have the book confirmed to have made it to Ron Wisdom and then sent to Larry Presnell, same deal, although apparently we have a revised list, it would still be good if folks marked in red on the list below could confirm whether or not they ever received the book, and if they did, also let us know who they sent it on to.

P.S. I already checked, Brock aint on the list :)

1. Craig Lawrence (Australia)
2. Joel Fallows
3. Claire Arendse
4. Paul Burns
5. Bob Connor
6. Timothy Spittle
7. Kim Hickey
8. Arnt Rian (Norway)
9. Martin Edwards (Ireland)
10. Sam Price (UK)
11. Serge Poirier (Quebec, Canada)
12. Alain Desforges
13. Tom Dowey
14. The Zootman Bob Cefalu
15. Hesh Breakstone
16. JJ Donohue
17. Coe Franklin
18. John Elshaw
19. Paul Woolson
20. John Cavanaugh
21. Bruce Dickey
22. Old Man Ron Wisdom

23. Dave Anderson
24. Michael McBroom
25. Andy Zimmerman
26. Peter Marreiros
27. Ed Barajas
28. Ronn Coates will be moving
29. Hank Mauel & John How
30. Lillian Watson
31. Danny Vincent
32. Shane Neifer
33. Graham Stewart

34. Home to Rod True

Thanks Kim. I made a weak attempt at finding that list. You're a good sleuth. It's doesn't have much to do with the book itself, but to pass something around amongst a group of friends who have never had the chance to meet in person but share such a great common bond. What a great idea on Rods part. Like he said, a lot of people have left here. Hopefully it surfaces some time. It was one of the many things that made me feel what a great place to this is take some time out of your day to visit.

The Best to All!

Hey Thanks Kim for you detective work.

For some reason I can't find the revised list which is different from the one you posted there. The book did make it to Ron Wisdom which was the last I heard of it. He (according to the revised list I can't find) was to send it on to Larry Presnell as per this PM from him back in Dec 09

Ron Wisdom wrote:
Hey, Rod

Yes, I read the book and shipped it to Larry Presnell way back in April.
We were emailing fairly regularly about it, so I assume he received it as he didn't respond again after I told him it was on the way.

Ron

I'll pm Larry to see what ever became of it.

Yeah, this was a fun thing to do. I enjoyed reading everyone's comments and adding something of my own. I would like to see it get back to Rod and finish its long trip around the planet! Hesh sent it to me by mistake(5 or 6 guys were ahead of me on the list).I sent it to Ron I think but it did get back on track. BTW- I loved the book! It told a tale of Waynes world
that was very interesting. I think I'll read it again.....
