Found the link to this site from a Fine Homebuilding e-mail.

Half way down the page is a very informative video on the manufacture of shellac.

Enjoy.

Pretty amazing process and the fact that their extraction technique hasn't changed. I read an article on the process in Fine Woodworking a couple of months back that looked like the same place. I like the moving pictures better. [:Y:]

Thanks

Fascinating. Perhaps the most interesting thing I've seen all week. Thanks for sharing it.

Thank you for posting.

"For now they are the keepers of our forrest. As long as the Lac is in demand.
There is an incentive for them to cultivate it. If demand falls, these very forests will be cut to create space for crop cultivation"

One more reason to use shellac.
I did not know I was helping to protect a forest.
I feel good!!!

So, do you suppose those guys have a nice shine on their tongues from stretching those sheets with their mouths?

What a fascinating clip. Awesome!
