Here is another silly question. If you were finishing with EM 6000 could you fill with the same material? The EM 6000 is easy to work with and it burns in very well. Is there any reason I couldn’t put it on thicker and press it down into the pores with a credit card and then clean up? With no witness lines and good burn in it would seem this could be done. If it shrinks back a bit I can just add another application. I would just need to worry if the pores are bridged. Philip |

Just recently we had a thread on drop filling EM6000 - It's rather difficult and takes a long time if you use straight EM6000. Target makes a water based clear filler that pore fills ah...rather poorly. It takes many re-applications etc. Stick with other pore fillers. You'll be happier. |

I'll second Andy's comments about the Target pore filler......it really takes a lot of applications to fill all the pores. I've been experimenting with EM6000 and the Target pore filler, as well as epoxy (Zpoxy and System 3 SB112) and the epoxy works sooooo much better because it doesn't shrink as it cures like the Target product. |

Some of the factory guys don't pore fill at all, that stuff goes on so thick! They also spray a fraction of the coats that we have to spray with EM6000. The tradeoff is that we don't have to worry about explosion proof fans, etc. EM6000 goes on too thin to be able to pore fill with it. I've been using LMI's waterbased pore filler with good results. It's very friendly to deal with - goes on easy and dries quick. It doesn't pop the grain quite as much as zpoxy did, but I'll never go back to Zpoxy! Trev |
